Chess, and what it is actually for
Chess does not raise maths marks by itself, and we would rather say so. What it does train is calculation under uncertainty and the discipline of checking a move before committing to it, which is exactly the habit that stops a capable student losing marks to careless arithmetic. Students play rated games here, because chess improves against real opposition and not against a worksheet.
The Apex center is on Lawnview Lane, a few minutes from the Beaver Creek shopping area and the 540 interchange. It is the center most of our Apex and Holly Springs families use, and the one that has been running longest, so the timetable there fills earliest in the autumn.
Finding the Apex center
We are at 2701 Lawnview Lane, Suite 106, Apex, NC 27523. The suite is on the ground floor with parking directly outside, which matters more than it sounds when you are dropping a child off between other errands. Coming from Holly Springs or Fuquay, US-1 and Beaver Creek Commons Drive are the straightforward route; from Cary, 540 to the Apex exit is usually quicker than Highway 55 at school-run time.
Built for Wake County students
Apex students sit the same North Carolina assessments as the rest of Wake County: End-of-Grade reading and mathematics from grade 3 to grade 8, science in grades 5 and 8, and End-of-Course tests in NC Math 1, NC Math 3, Biology and English II. Because this center has the deepest timetable, it is also where our smallest-group high-school sections usually run, including the NC Math sequence in the term before the End-of-Course test rather than after it.
