What we cover
The full High School Art syllabus, taught in order and revisited until it sticks.
- ✓Drawing & sketching fundamentals
Observation, proportion, and shading from life. Beginners tend to draw what they believe an object looks like rather than what sits in front of them, and correcting that takes sustained practice.
- ✓Color theory
Hue, value, and saturation, and why two colors that look fine alone fight on the same canvas. Mixing from a limited palette teaches more about color relationships than a full set of tubes ever does.
- ✓Painting techniques
Acrylic and watercolor handling — layering, edges, how much water a wash can carry. These materials reward repetition, so students work through small studies before committing to a final piece.
- ✓Creative studio projects
Extended work from the student's own idea, carried through sketches, revisions, and a finished piece. Portfolio applications ask for evidence of process, not only a strong final image.
- ✓Sparks of art history
Short looks at movements and individual works, used to give students a vocabulary for what they are attempting. Seeing how an artist solved a compositional problem is more useful than being handed a rule.

Classes are small and move together, so a teacher can see who is lost. A student who needs a second explanation gets one in the room, not at home that night.

Small group or 1:1?

Small-group class
A set weekly schedule, a cohort moving through the full syllabus together, and the discussion that comes from working alongside other students at the same level. This is the main programme for most families.
1:1 private tutoring
Hours bought as a pack and scheduled around your student, with the whole session spent on exactly what they need — a topic they missed, an upcoming exam, or a subject moving faster than the class.

Class opens with questions on the previous session and the practice set, so the teacher can see who is solid and who needs a second pass before new material lands on top.

The teacher works the concept through with the class — where it comes from, what it is for, and the mistakes students reliably make with it.

Guided practice, then independent
Students work problems with the teacher watching, so errors are caught in the room, and then work a set on their own before the session ends.

High School Art — questions parents ask
How are High School Art classes taught?
One 60-minute class each week. All materials & Unik LMS access included. Classes are small synchronized cohorts, so the group moves through the full syllabus together while pacing stays matched to each student's level.
Where can my child take High School Art?
In person at our Apex, NC; Morrisville, NC; and Dublin, CA centers, or live online from anywhere in the United States. Online classes use the same curriculum, the same small-group format and the same Unik platform.
Is High School Art aligned to my child's school curriculum?
Yes. In North Carolina we follow NC state standards; in Dublin, California we follow the California Integrated Math pathway. Online students are taught the standards for their own state.
Should we choose a small-group class or 1:1 tutoring?
A small-group class is the right fit for keeping pace with school across a term. 1:1 private tutoring suits a specific gap or a deadline, since the whole hour goes on exactly what that student needs. Families often use both.
What if my child is behind, or ahead?
Both are normal and both are planned for. We re-teach missing fundamentals rather than pushing past them, and students who are ready move through material faster instead of waiting for the group.
