Chess, and what it is actually for

Chess does not raise maths marks by itself, and we would rather say so. What it does train is calculation under uncertainty and the discipline of checking a move before committing to it, which is exactly the habit that stops a capable student losing marks to careless arithmetic. Students play rated games here, because chess improves against real opposition and not against a worksheet.

Our Dublin center is on Summit Road in the Tri-Valley, drawing families from Dublin, Pleasanton and San Ramon. California's maths pathway is genuinely different from North Carolina's, and the courses taught here are built on the California sequence rather than adapted from it.

Finding the Dublin center

We are at 3972 Summit Road, Dublin, CA 94568, with parking on site. From Pleasanton the approach is usually over on Dublin Boulevard; from San Ramon, Dougherty Road down to Dublin Boulevard avoids the worst of the I-580 interchange at the end of the school day. The Dublin/Pleasanton BART station is close enough that older students sometimes come on their own.

Built for the California pathway

California students follow the Integrated Mathematics sequence — Integrated Math 1, 2 and 3 — rather than the Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 order used in North Carolina, and a course that shares a name across the two states often does not share its content or its order. Our Dublin classes follow the California sequence, which is why we keep the two curricula separate rather than teaching one syllabus everywhere and calling it national.
